Over the weekend, Hodges sale of 3/49 Abbott St was featured in a number of publications, including news.com.au, The Herald Sun, and The Sunday Age’s Domain.

Peter Farrago from the Herald Sun wrote:

“[The] Sandringham home decked out with retro patterned wallpapers and carpets and dizzying bathroom tiles didn’t deter family buyers.

Hodges, Sandringham, agent Amanda Jones said the four-bedroom brick veneer home at 3/49 Abbott St was knocked down for $1.35 million despite the decor having a polarising impact on buyers during the campaign.

“Some people walked into the house and walked back out again because they couldn’t see beyond the patterns,” Ms Jones said.

“There were different wallpapers in every room or more than one wallpaper in a room and patterned carpets.

“There was a lot going on in the house, but buyers could see structurally a very sold house with a really good footprint,” she said.

Ms Jones said bidding reached the vendors’ $1.1 million quickly.

“We thought it might have gone over a little bit because we did have so many qualified buyers, but they were out pretty quickly,” Ms Jones said.”

“The buyers are going to move in and renovate.”

Kristen Robb from Domain in The Sunday Age wrote:

It was an emotional sale for vendor John Mather, who along with his sister had been allowed to choose his own wallpaper and carpets as a child – resulting in a distinct interior. The buyers plan to renovate, but said they would try to keep some of the retro aspects intact.”
