The word Karrum Karrum was recorded as being used by the original inhabitants of nearby Olivers Hill, as noted by surveyors in 1836. The first survey of (now) Carrum Downs was conducted in 1866 and noted a single dwelling; fast forward 150 years and this number is over 8000 dwellings and a little over 20,000 residents.
The initial stage of Carrum Downs consisted of what was known as Botany Park; a housing estate built by well-known and accomplished developer A.V Jennings, who is still in operation today, this estate formed the ground roots on the expanding and ever changing footprint of Carrum Downs. Quaint streetscapes in uniformity along with many streets named after native birds to the region, add to the quaint big town in a Peninsula setting that is the soul of Carrum Downs.
Located within the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula, approx. 36km South East from Melbourne’s CBD; Carrum Downs is found. An area renowned for being within one of most diversified regions on the Peninsula; from both fiscal to cultural, encompassing award winning educational centres, parklands, recreation and access to Golf Courses, whilst being only minutes to both arterial access and breath-taking beaches (some famous and some a local’s secret)
Carrum Downs is recognised for a wide array of options from large family homes on generous allotments, through to higher density living. A popular choice for young families with education, affordability, services and direct City Access, whilst being within 10 minutes’ drive of Frankston’s waterfront and a short excursion to the village in Mount Eliza, translates to endless fortuity and choice for its residents.
Nature Reserves, Golf Courses, 3 Shopping Centres locally, with Bayside Shopping Complex only minutes’ drive away, public transport, Private and Public Schools, Multiple Freeway Access, Cinemas, Banks, Restaurants, Trades, Fairs and a public spirit of inclusiveness. Combine this with promoting greater housing affordability compared to nearby communities, it’s no surprise that more and more families are being drawn to the growing energy of Carrum Downs.
