You would have heard the expression; first impressions are everything. Buyers can be infamously unforgiving and harsh when judging your home, especially in this market. Generating street appeal and charm is essential when putting your house front of mind above the rest. A quick exterior makeover can add significant value to your home.

Set the boundaries

A rotted old fence or rusty broken parameter between yours and adjoining properties immediately makes your home look exhausted, run down and unloved. Even if the home itself is beautifully presented. Fences and boundaries are cheap to replace, and you can usually share the cost with neighbours if it divides the area between your title and theirs.

The grand entrance

If your home doesn’t have a clear and definitive entrance, create one. You can add a porch, use timber slat screening to create a feature entrance, or invest in some paving or gravel leading up to the front door. This will all create a sense of entry and look much cleaner, sharper and polished. This doesn’t have to break the bank, you could simply even create a walk way with plants, gravel or tanbark.

Give the house a facelift

You could update an old outdated exterior by rendering, replacing the gutters, facsias, garage door or window frames. It’s amazing but you can completely transform an old seventies or eighties property and have it looking modernised and on trend. This can be quite an extensive monetary investment upfront to completely update, however, it can add thousands to your home when you come to sell.

Utilise the garden

This seems like an obvious one, but it’s not uncommon to see homes go to ‘open for inspections’ with messy, disordered front gardens. Landscaping can help balance the façade of an old home, especially with brick which is extremely heavy looking and adding greenery can help soften this.
