Hodges Real Estate is delighted to announce that it will be a key sponsor of Connor’s Run for the second year in a row.

Connor’s Run was established in memory of Robert ‘Connor’ Dawes who passed away at the age of 18 from a brain tumour.  In September 2011, 17 year old Connor ran from his home in Sandringham to the boatsheds on the Yarra. Not loving running, he did the 18.8 km because he was determined to be the best he could be. Little did he know that in his head was more than just fierce determination: there was also a tumour growing.

Two months later, Connor was diagnosed with an anaplastic ependymoma. Major surgery resulted in loss of movement to his right side, impaired vision and severe short term memory loss. His body was broken, but his mind was not. He was determined to improve and spent hours each day on his physical and mental rehabilitation. Intense radiation and later chemotherapy followed. But throughout all this, Connor stayed positive, philosophical and true to his mantra: “I will be awesome”. This mantra reflected Connor’s inspiring spirit as he battled through every adversity that came his way until he passed away at the age of just 18 years old.

The RCD fund was created to continue Connor’s legacy by directing money towards fighting brain tumours – the most fatal of all childhood cancers. Current clinical treatments only help 50% of children, and leave 90% with lifelong physical and mental impairments. The RCD fund is all about changing these odds through helping to advance neuroscience, whilst also helping those patients who are most in need of help today. Connor’s Run is in its second year and this year will aim to generate no less than $250,000 in the fight against brain tumours.

The Run will take place on the 14th of September and registration is expected to close soon due to high demand. Those who aren’t runners can go at their own pace and get to choose between either an 18.8km or 9.8km option. The 18.8km trail starts on the Beachfront at Small St, Sandringham and the 9.6km trail starts at the Catani Gardens in St Kilda at 10.00am.
