The weekend just gone was coined ‘one for the record books’ by The Herald Sun; with more than 1600 auctions taking place across Melbourne.

On Saturday, hundreds of buyers zeroed in on covenant-free properties unaffected by heritage restrictions in order to rebuild, reported The Age. Others competed for period houses and older-style units. The market was healthy – The Age noting that this Saturday had the most auctions on a single day since the city’s first public auction of Crown land on June 1, 1837.

The Domain Group reported a clearance rate of 75 per cent from 1187 metropolitan area auctions.

Hodges Director Campbell Cooney says the market will continue to maintain its momentum – providing good opportunities for those looking to sell and buy.
