The Herald Sun recently reported that 5,800 new jobs were forecast for the real estate industry between 2013 and 2018.

Campbell Cooney, Franchise Director at Hodges Real Estate was asked to comment for his thoughts on careers in real estate. “People believe real estate is just about selling property but it requires a variety of skills. Real estate is a career based on building and maintaining relationships, therefore strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial,”he says.

Campbell goes on to advise that dedication and hard-work are vital elements to being successful in any career path. But it is also important to know how to relate and communicate to people on a personal and professional level he suggests.

There are many benefits from having previously worked in other industries prior to real state this can include customer service skills from previous retail or hospitality work, small business background and practical knowledge gained in trade.
